I know that a lot of the trades have taken a turn downward as far as quality because of who is out there actually willing to work but there are somethings that I feel should have been caught and were not. Over all the quality of the home is great. We are pleased with the structure but there were somethings that we just felt didn't live up to the quality that you come to expect with a Highland Home.

Home buying experience was fine, very easy other than the wait time which was out of their control. The quality of workmanship could be better. Builder tried to make it better and in many ways did get things fixed. A few other cosmetic issues were not fixed and it feels like you’re forced to deal with them or fix them yourself after dealing with multiple do overs.

My new home is beautiful, but it’s becoming more apparent as I live in it that the trades consistently cut corners. For now it’s mostly superficial (e.g. door knobs started coming off and bathroom grout started cracking/peeling first week) but I’m concerned that major issues are just waiting to be discovered. I know the housing market is crazy and everyone is stretched thin, but it seems pumping the brakes is a better solution than rushing and having to re-do each job. Perhaps my hopes were too high for a five-star home based on Highland’s reputation…

Home was delivered slightly ahead of schedule and at the agreed price. Project Manager (Chase M) did an outstanding job of keeping us informed of progress and responding to any issues that came up after closing. Home is well built, although some materials could be of better quality. Paint team needs some work and required numerous touch ups and cover ups. Seemed like the painters simply wanted to be in and out as soon as possible instead of doing the job correctly the first time.

Home is high quality. Issues that were supposed to be fixed within the first 10 days after closing are still not fixed.

We love the home, but now have those nit-pickey items that need to be finished. I hope Highland responds well. So far, so good

The overall experience was a good one. My realtor was great, but Highland sales office in Devonshire was just okay. I did not feel the welcome and willing to help from them. The project manager was great .

Beautiful home but there are so many issues to content with. Sadly, workmanship is mediocre at best. Appears workman are in such a hurry to get done that the quality is lacking. Would I buy another Highland home ? Maybe would be my answer. Slowly the issues are being addressed.

Overall, we had a great experience. A few minor issues along the way, but nothing out of ordinary when building a new home. For a 1,600 sq ft home I feel like the price was really steep, but that is more indicative of the market.

Communication with our builder has been terrible. Some of the communication issues are his fault but he's also at the mercy of his contractors that simply don't give a crap anymore. The painters were horrible and two crews were fired during the build process. Now painters who come in are kids with zero experience. Trying to get contractors to show up at all has been an absolute pain. Highland is doing the best they can. We fortunately started the build process early in the year. House was completed in 10 months but we have neighbors who built a year prior and it only took 6 months. Now I'm hearing total build time is 12-16 months. Can't get materials, can't find workers, if you find workers, the quality of their work is horrible. If you must build now, know going into it that it will be a really bumpy ride. If you've built in the past, forget about that experience. This day and age, people building your house flat out could not care about overall quality of their work. If your builder isn't happy with that contractor, that contractor will just get up and leave because they have 100 other jobs they can go too. Again, this isn't really a Highland Homes issue. This is just an issue we all face these days. Even employees in over services areas simply do not care because they can go find another job in a heart beat. If you don't have to build now, I would highly recommend you wait a few years. Yes, prices keep going up but the wait will be worth it. Thankfully our build is complete but we are still dealing with warranty items that are taking months to get completed. Most are 5 min jobs and it's like pulling teeth to get someone to show up! ... I would have liked more communication and honesty on what we were being told.

We love our house, lots of space, great layout, materials are excellent. However, we all say that the little things are the ones that matter. It is really hard to get Highland homes team to respond to an issue. Lots of excuses when it comes to follow up and communication is broken with the construction team. All we need as a customer is someone to follow up and highland homes team fails tremendously on that.

While I love my floor plan this house was built pretty poorly. Cabinets were installed with damage, the tile everywhere is the absolute worst. Just poor quality all around for a builder that claims they build quality homes

Over the home is good not great as far as price. It was just the experience dealing with some individuals that makes you think? Did I make the best decision for myself and family. I know the builder responsibilities are to stick to schedule. Get the house built on time. In some case there was rushed. It stood out once I brought things to there Attention with concerns it was just about written off or down played. If I being honest , on a positive note please READ everything and acknowledge things so you don't have to fight with them about it later. If could I go back to adjust the most common things that's never on your top list I definitely wouldn't let it slip through the cracks. Be aware you might tell the builder one thing especially something your paying for. Hay can you make sure this is done this way or that way. Will preface by saying we bought in the pandemic boom and have calmed my anger according to the understanding of the strange times. This being said the fit and finish of the home leaves lots to be desired. Getting repairs done is not easy at all and am still waiting for almost all of it. There’s one point of contact and he is totally overwhelmed. Structurally it seems like a great build but time will tell. The sales staff was nice enough through that process.

Overall are good, Highland needs to manage all the sub- contracts that used on the project. Some of sub-contracts did not keep the appointments or they showed up later without any notifications to the owner. It took too long to fix or solve an issue.

We have found some workmanship issues since moving in. Responsiveness between initial walk through and final walk through was not great. Several issues still not addressed. We will see how warranty plays out.

Above average builder definitely recommend to buy from.

Process went well considering covid which made closing two months later. Quality in workmanship was less than stellar, items that were to be finished before closing weren’t and still not completed. Covid again? Other than minor things it’s a beautiful house so I believe we got more for our money with Highland than we would have if we gone with another builder.

Floor plans and upgrade options are excellent!

There were times when we lost trust in this location as far as selling us this home. And it took some rebuilding of trust in order for us to stay with them. Right up to the end we questioned our decisions to buy this home, but we did it and for our first home we are satisfied. I'll say if you can be here everyday during the build, make sure you are!

Both the sales consultant and the construction manager were exceptionally professional, knowledgeable, responsive, personable and above all they were great listeners. They took time to understand our needs and made excellent attempts to cater to our wants and needs. However, the overall finishing of the house and attention to detail can be improved significantly--especially the cabinets were handled poorly with next to no care at all. Paint chip, scratches, squeaky doors, unclean grout and what not. We got tired of pin-pointing and asking the construction manager to fix everything so we eventually gave in. It's a simple concept though - if you pay the full price, you should get product you have paid for - not damaged goods! Overall happy with my new home. A few glitches dealing with the contractor, but that is to be expected.

During the home buying process, especially getting ready to close, we were repeatedly told that highland homes stood behind their work and the home. Repeatedly we were told that if we had any issues just get in contact with Castin, the person that was in charge of our construction, and the countless warranties. Well we have had several minor issues, but issues nonetheless, that we have reached out to get fixed. Nothing has happened. And one of those issues I am not sure is that small. From the beginning an area of our yard has experienced flooding, Castin said it would be fixed before we moved in, yet that certain area of our yard is a mud pit. The house is beautiful, we truly believe we got a good deal, however, we are very disappointed with the service we have received afterwards. If we were to be on our after purchase and highland homes wasn't going to take care of any issues, then that should have been expressed. Instead we were misled. ... More
