I have had multiple new builds, and the Highland team was by far the most professional, friendly and easy to work with. We love the layout and the neighborhood, and are enjoying our new home. That said, I would be remiss if I did not note that the quality of the fit and finish is sub-par, and judging by what I've seen them build not to their standard. Perhaps the quality of the sub-contractors is what is the cause here, but that requires some attention as there are so many issues that should not exist at this level of home /price point.

Overall it was a good experience. Our sales counselor was amazing, she guided us through and answered our questions and concerns diligently. The GC's we had were awesome and made a point to have a good relationship with us. The worst part was dealing with some of their subs that just rushed through their job without any oversight or quality control. Our GC's were very responsive to any issues that came up due to the subs. We were also rushed into closing at the end of the month even though the house wasn't ready and our GC told his superiors that. We had a great experience working with Highland Homes and the entire team at Santa Rita Ranch, including Amy, Jake, and Larry. They were kind, courteous, responsive, and made us feel heard throughout the process. There were some hiccups and long delays as a result of some construction team turnover, but we were able to work through those and are happy with the final product.

This was my second time buying a home and it went very smooth. This was the first time I've had to sell a house and buy at the same time. Highland Homes was very flexible by allowing me ample time to sell our previous home, and was understanding when it took a little longer than expected during the COVID pandemic. Ethan was easily the best part of the buying experience. He was extremely responsive and transparent about the whole process.

We entered into a contract on a new Highland Home right before Covid hit. Even though we were unable to return to the home to do an inspection or walk thru, the construction supervisor walked us thru it on Zoom so we could get another look at the house before we closed.

Overall the home is awesome. Small things that could have easily been fixed before I moved in were clogged drains, scratches on the cabinets, front door finish, yard watering system issues, etc. Highland Homes was responsive to fix the issues.

We got a very nice house with some very nice features. The sales team was great and very responsive. The first foreman (person in charge who gets everything done on time and correctly) left much to be desired. Subsequent foremen have been wonderful. Our best suggestion to a future home buyer would be to pay very close attention to the change orders which identify any enhancements or modifications to the base plans. Be sure items discussed end up on the change orders or they won't happen. Review the change orders closely and make sure they are complete and accurate.

Our sales agent was amazing and our second CM has been wonderful, but unfortunately, some mistakes are too expensive and work-intensive to resolve at this point. Our first CM made a slew of mistakes -- misframed walls, crooked island, and we ended up with a sewage backup within the first week, of living in our new home. We definitely wish we'd had an inspector come out for the predrywall walk and again before closing. GET A GOOD INSPECTOR! However, overall, we are loving our home and our new CM has been very empathetic and good to work with in correcting issues that we can still resolve. While there are things we wish we'd done differently during the building / inspection process, we don't regret going with Highland and would recommend them to our friends and family. ... More

Designer chosen colors and fixtures provided me with a home that is lovely, and well built. Light and airy with lots of windows and high ceilings, the home is comfortable and attractive.

First, I love my home. The design, amount of space for the price and the high ceilings are my favorite aspects of the house.

Gracie and Genie were exceptional to work with. They addressed our concerns and fixes in a timely manner.

The sales and superintendent personnel were awesome, extremely responsive and accommodating to our needs - could not find better people to work with. Some of the work done in the house was a bit sloppy, but when we pointed out something that needed to be addressed they were on it immediately.

Overall, we are very happy with our Highland Home and truly love the house. The quality of the build is good, and as a builder myself, I can say the craftsmanship and overall construction met expectations. The sales process was excellent — smooth, professional, and easy from start to finish. That part of the experience was handled very well. Where things fell short was the customer service and punch-list process. Several items that were documented and supposed to be completed before move-in were not addressed. Some items were even marked as completed, only for us to discover they were not fixed and had to be added back to the list. Unfortunately, those items still have not been resolved. That inconsistency is the only reason this is not a 5-star review. The home itself is great, but the follow-through on repairs and communication could be improved. We really enjoyed the PURCHASING process of buying our first home. The sales team was always attentive and the office staff were more than welcoming when we were signing our documents to close. Construction is a different story, while the home seems to be built well our construction manager is little to no help at all. Every single question we have asked has been answered, but answered incorrectly. We have been given several answers to our questions which has resulted in hundreds of dollars of wasted money because the construction team has given us incorrect info. I think they need to reevaluate who they are hiring to manage these houses and make sure the people in the field know what they are talking about before they start answering questions. ... More

Initially we were so skeptical going with highland homes as we had deal with each sales agent (as they were changed frequently) and same with Construction managers but ones we have Michael as construction manager..things got in place and boosted our confidence in moving with highland homes ..as he used to provide construction updates everyweek ( as we were remote, wish we would have been at the site to have other minor changes) and always on call during the support for the time he had with us..definitely recommend Michael and highland homes for new house buyers.

We hired a 3rd party to inspect the home. Many issues were found. The report was provided to the construction supervisor and sales rep. A subsequent follow up by the 3rd party inspector showed that many issues remained. A copy was again provided to the same Highland individuals. A 3rd inspection was performed prior to close. A couple of issues were still identified. After move in one major issue was still unresolved - oven tripping breaker. We were assured prior to close it had been resolved. It was not. Disappointed about the failure to address issues and had to engage a 3rd party inspector multiple times. ... More

The buying experience was good.

Overall we are happy with our home but we do have some things we are very disappointed with. This is the first home we did not build from the ground up and we know things won’t be perfect but there are issues, the dining room light isn’t centered which will look bad when a table is properly placed in the room. There is paint all over door knobs and stoppers, the quality of the paint job on some doors and trim is very poor with dried paint dripping showing. There is a big texture patch in the laundry room where they either got the texture applied wrong or had to patch the area and didn’t texture good. Some doors are warped. Some door trim cuts do not align or the boards are damaged. In the master bath above the mirror there are sunken anchors in the wall above the mirror as if they had something placed there before but then removed it and then they painted over the anchors. The landscaping is a hodge podge of various plants with no rhyme or reason to them. These are all things we have discovered after being in the home, we did do a walk through and MANY things were addressed and fixed before we moved in but there are obvious things that can be missed during that walkthrough and that is what I am describing in this review. ... As a realtor, I have been a huge advocate for highland homes and will continue to be. Their floor plans are roomy, well designed and efficient. However, we experienced the following concerns. Your experience may differ so please take it with a grain of salt. 1) multiple construction delays and changes in construction management personnel. This may have improved in recent months. 2) strongly recommend separate property inspection. Align with the builder on what needs to be fixed before closing and make sure they do. Otherwise, You can expect to have month long delays and multiple follow ups before issues get resolved 3) do a checklist on all the change order from your design options with the construction manager. During the building process, we had no issue. We knew the build timeline would take longer due to the industry's current environment. However, not everything was completed prior to our close date and the warranty experience has not been very enjoyable. I wish there was more communication/responsiveness.
