We closed on February 19th and STILL have issues waiting to be corrected. At first we were told materials had to be ordered and they were delayed. Now we are told no one will come out with the COVID scare. Not overly confident that my issues are going to be taken care of ever at this point.
Highland Homes responded:

After speaking with our team, I’m glad to hear that we are ready to complete your request, but for the safety of our employees and homeowners we are not able to make these updates just yet. Not as expected from a quality builder

Actually disappointed with the new build construction and lack of responsiveness with our Highland home. (Quite inferior to our previous Builder home/experience). No doubt that the bones of the house are quality; however, overshadowed by the subpar craftsmanship of the internal and external finish out. Several major issues pointed out to the construction manager during the building process along with many cosmetic issues prior to closing. Unable to use our master shower upon move in and zero faith that any of our issues will now be address since the money has now been funded to Highland. ...

Maybe expectations were too high. But for the amount of money spent on this house, I would have expected a MUCH higher level of craftsmanship in details. Base materials that the builder uses are lower quality (cheap doors, basic light fixtures, flimsy wood flooring, counter materials in kitchen and bathroom, little toilets, light switch locations, etc.). Maybe the "area" commanded such a price, but the end product was mildly disappointing. By the end, it was too late to correct it all. The construction manager was responsive during final walk through but not entirely reactive to make ...

This is our second Highland Homes new build (the first was in 2012 in The Tribute.) The experience this time around was not at all the same. Overall, we like our house but only because we had to nitpick and complain about things from the day the foundation was poured. Nearly every surface in our house had an issue that we had to manage the builder on. We did have some resolution on certain issues, but overall, the quality of this build and the experience was not what we envisioned. We will probably build another house again in the next few years and will most likely not consider Highland. ...

We love our home, but nobody should finish a building project and wish things were different or with plans to fix things on your own at a later date. Unfortunately that was our experience. Our process began with a new hire running our design meeting. We were given no direction, no choices, and he had very few answers to questions we asked regarding upgrades. Having now gone through the process, there should have been a book or list to direct the choices we were being asked to make. Through the beginning of building our construction manager was great about updating us weekly as to what would ...

The house seems like it was rushed to meet our closing date, which we could have easily pushed back. Details such as internet availability was vague and misguided. Still don't have internet after nearly 2 months. Sales consultant seemed clueless about the tree removal behind house. Paint work is sub par. Floor is unlevel in several places throughout the house. Drainage around the house seems to be an after thought. Inconsistencies from house to house with same floor plan in the sections. Wrong fence per groves code installed on back fence line. Chesmar homes are building fences to ...

Bricks uneven and mortar not installed correctly. The brick layer came back once to correct it and made it worst and use the wrong color mortar. The drainage in not slopped correctly and water sits in the backyard. The warranty representative suggestive that I purchase grass that will grow in damp areas. Sprinkler system not zoned correctly. I had to turn off half the sprinklers in order to water some of the grass that was replaced. If not then the area that does not drain water accumulates and just sit there longer then 48 hours.

Our house had no heat or AC for the first 2 weeks of owning it. We found the issue on the final walkthrough but we signed a form accepting it so we wouldn't delay closing. The weather was not too bad but we still expected it to be fixed. One weekend it was going to be very cold. Nothing had been done so I submitted a warranty request on the Thursday before and it wasn't even looked at until the Monday afterwards. We put an electric heater in out infant daughter's room but it was cold in the house. When I talked to the person on Monday she told me I should have just called the contractor ...

The sales representatives were fantastic. We were always treated with respect and courtesy when visiting the sales/design center. Once in the house, things changed slightly. On move in day, we attempted to hook up our dryer (electric) when I was shocked due to the plug being wired incorrectly. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the plug had no ground thus allowing for electric feedback. I had to re-wire the plug correctly. Next, after a further (detailed) inspection of the house it was discovered that there are many quality related issues that in my opinion are ...

There was lack of supervision during the entire build process. Corrective action were poor. We were pushed to close even without things being completed. I have broke water lines in the sprinkler system. I had expressed concern about leaks in the sprinkler system before close and I was told they were fixed. First water bill was extremely high and I am still waiting for the lines to be fixed and outcome of the water bill reimbursement.

They did not cover all the options available and were stuck on building as is, not what could be done. We were not given complete listings or copies of what they discussed in the meetings. We had to fight to have any issues addressed that were seen at walk through. The house and concrete (driveway, garage and patio) were filthy at move in.

Choose your house engineer carefully if you can. Make sure they actually understand what’s happening inside the house. In my case, the concrete was poured on a rainy day, which led to cracks. Any concerns I raised were brushed off as “common.” There was no blue-tape walkthrough, even a month after moving in, supposedly due to a “new Highland policy.” A design center mistake caused mismatched grout in the bathrooms that was never corrected, even though I was told verbally it would be. Several promises were made but not delivered. As a corner lot, we were supposed to receive upgraded side ...

Love the design of our home but it’s been an absolute headache dealing with so many issues that need to be fixed. Tired of having workers in and out of my house nearly 3 months after closing. Many of these issues could have been avoided with just a little competence in project management. I’m sure we’ll love our home long term but the process getting there has been terrible

This was our second Highland Home. Planning on it being our last, the initial experience was good, but went down hill with a temporary showroom and lack luster selection. Then our Construction Manager was out sick from just after foundation pour till a month before closing. Never the less they kept building, we would walk through on weekends and notice that there was work going on but under no real supervision. Needless to say there were issues but luckily I contracted a home inspector. We wish people were honest and trustworthy but at the end of the day I don’t know what I’m looking at ...

My wife and I bought this home as our retirement home. We have had nothing but disappointment since we moved in. Dings and a chip in the bathtub, 3 dents in the garage door. They used the cheapest materials and poorest workmanship I’ve ever seen. Now in our retirement years we need to go through and replace everything. Very disappointed.

We are first time homeowners and we trusted Highland Homes for our first house but unfortunately it hasn’t been a good experience. We have been living in our new house for a little over 2 months and we have had people working here pretty much every week fixing things that were just poorly done. We pointed out those things on the blue tape walk through but they were not fixed so we had to go trough a lot of trouble to finally get them fixed. So far we have had 1 shower redone, the whole backyard redone, door frames, door hardware and we are still waiting for our curved island quartz to be ...

Dear Highland Home, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the quality of the home I purchased and the customer service I have received since moving in. I have experienced several quality issues, including: • Loose doorknobs (multiple times) • A bathtub with scratches and dents (the builder representative accused me of being picky and said they didn't think they could meet my expectations) • A broken faucet handle • Walkway cement with footsteps on top (the builder representative argued with me for 15 minutes about why I didn't bring this issue up during the ...

Highland Homes has been taking too long fixing things around the house under warranty. Some items were detected before closing and few months later we are still waiting for these items to be fixed. Builder’s grade quality items and attention to detail is almost none. Highland homes says they contact the owner within 48 hours to fix warranty claims, it has been months, with both phone calls and emails, we are still waiting.

Our buying experience started off great. The sales rep was responsive and helpful. After we signed the paperwork and design appointment were completed the service started declining. Although the construction manager reported updates almost weekly, we had questions and small changes that were treated as huge inconveniences. Our construction timeline ended right around the original projected date, but when we went through the walk through we were given instructions not to complete the full checklist as “it wasn’t necessary”. While the construction and foundational work seems sound, the ...
